Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA)
Since December 2007, Alicia García-Herrero is Chief Economist for Emerging Markets at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA). She is also visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong and a member of the advisory board of Hong Kong Institute of Monetary Research. Prior to BBVA, she was part of the Asian Research Program of the BIS in Hong Kong. From 2001 until 2006, she was Head of the International Economy Division of Bank of Spain. She was also visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University and at Universidad Carlos III. From 1998 to 2001, she was a member of the Counsel to the Executive Board of the ECB. From 1997 to 1998, she was Head of Emerging Economies at the Research Department at Banco Santander, as well as Associate Professor at Universidad Autónoma. From 1994 to 1997, she worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund. Alicia García Herrero holds a Ph.D. in Economics from George Washington. Many of her papers have been published in reference journals and books. She has also been a research fellow at the Bank of Japan and the Bank of Finland.
