Christian Thimann

Christian Thimann is the Adviser to President Mario Draghi at the European Central Bank and was the Adviser to President Jean-Claude Trichet from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that he headed two divisions at the ECB; from 2005 to 2008 in charge of international monetary issues and emerging economies, and from 2000 to 2004 in charge of EU accession-related matters. He joined the ECB in 1998 from the International Monetary Fund, where he worked in the European Department and the Asia and Pacific Department. His main research interests are monetary economics, international finance and institutional economics. He has been a lecturer at the University of Frankfurt in the field of International Money and Finance since 2003. He holds a B.A. (equivalent) in Economics from the University of Bonn, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Munich.
