Nemat Shafik

Dr. Shafik has been the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF since April 2011 where she leads on countries in Europe and the Middle East, training and technical assistance, and is responsible for the IMF’s $1 billion budget and human resource policies for its 3,000 staff. She was the Permanent Secretary of the U.K. Department for International Development (DFID) from 2008-2011. Dr. Shafik was the youngest-ever Vice President at the World Bank and was part of the senior management team of the International Finance Corporation. She has an MSc from the London School of Economics, a DPhil from Oxford University, and has taught and published widely.
